Answers to some questions

We found out Friday a number of things.

The agency wrote back to tell us some specifics about why people worried about continued adoptions in Guatemala. Essentially they said that they're talking to their contacts in Guatemala and watching the department of state's website. Neither Guatemala nor the US has said they would be closing adoptions. They also said that they believe once we have Immigration clearance, our adoption would be safe no matter what. We're still trying to proceed as quickly as possible with everything, and I imagine next week will be busy as we go through another batch of obtaining documents, filling out forms, and having everything notarized.

We're trying to keep a watchful eye over what's going on, trying not to give way to fears. A couple of friends have now given us the name and number of families who recently adopted from Guatemala for us to contact. We're hopeful that in hearing from other people, it will assuage our worries and offer support.

In other news, we're planning on getting the bunkbeds sometime this next week and setting them up in the boys' room! We're also working on clearing out the room and starting to plan what we're going to do with the room.

We found out that there are no other foster children with the boys, but the foster family has three biological children that live in the home. We were wondering if we should send packages to those children as well, and are still deciding. :) So much to do.

We're all excited.

So have you decided to go ahead and send the pictures to the kids or wait until a time closer to them coming when things are more concrete?

We're going to go ahead with the pictures. Ray sent an email to the agency to find out what they advise regarding money -- as we don't want to slow anything down, but want to proceed cautiously. We also want to find out if they next payment can wait until we have Immigration Clearance, which seems to be the line in the sand that means we can definitely get our children at that point.

Hi Kelli and Ray,
Kelli, your mom is keeping me up to date about your progress. We are so excited for you! Mateo looks like he could be Michael's biological brother! I think you should send the pictures now and send a few small things to the other kids in the family too. It will be helpful for you to contact people who have recently gotten children from Guatemala - so they can give you tips w/ the process and help you know a little more of what to expect. We were in contact w/ several families who traveled to the Philippines just before we got Michael. They all had some small difficulties, but we were able to learn from their experiences and had no trouble at all. I know you know God is in control. Keep your strong faith when things seem like they have screeched to a halt! These are your labor pains and you will forget them just like mom's who have physical labor. I would love to talk to you any time you want or need to talk!

About photos, what do you think about sending new ones as things progress. For children that young, repetition is helpful.

While slow now, I predict things will move fasterr than originally thought.
