This week the boys had their first experience with the wild river and camping. (Well, in a mini-preschool-age appropriate version and loads of supervision!) It was really fun. They boys are all excited about what the beach and ocean must be like! Above and below are pictures of my dad (Gwampa) and the boys in inner tubes floating on the river!
My parents' cabin sits right next to the river, and about 30 feet out (I'm really bad with distances) there's a little sandbar island. They boys played in the shallow water in between and explored the tiny island. It was super-scary and exhilarating to them. They'd run around and be so proud of themselves, and then a moment of panic! What's that big black thing in the water?! --Honey, that's a rock . . .
*laughs*
The boys got to help their grandpa put together a tent for camping! Unfortunately for their abuelo, Matt wanted to "snuggle" because he was cold and kept tossing and squirming all night. My poor dad was in definite need of a nap after that night's sleep!
Danny is such a turkey. He hates me snapping pictures. I say "smile" and he growls like a tiger. ARG.
Matt was utterly indulged with learning new games. Dad taught him checkers, and Junior Monopoly. Danny still has trouble sitting still for games that take that long, but he did pretty well holding out through a simplified version of Go Fish! :) We also played quite a number of games of Tic-Tac-Toe! :)
The boys slept solid through their camping experience, and have since asked why we don't have a tent in our backyard so they can camp out all the time! I just keep thinking about that Leave it to Beaver episode where Beaver and Wally want to sleep outside in the tent even though it's raining. June Cleaver is just worried to pieces about them in the backyard, and the dad says something like, "Dear, don't you worry about a thing; they'll be just fine." Wally and Beaver can't make it outside in the pouring rain though, and sneak back into the house through the kitchen door, which their dad left unlocked for them, and sleep snugly in their warm beds. Cuteness.
I have aspirations that one day our little family will be just like the Cleavers. Can you see it? :)
