Pobrecito (poor thing)

So this little guy right here (Mateo with the toy) had a ROUGH day.  On a super-minor level, he was upset because we were going to go to the park and I couldn't find my keys.  So we decided to finger paint as a super-fun alternative.  After painting, quite naturally we started playing outside.  One thing led to another and the boys started rolling down the hill . . .
All of a sudden, Mateo runs up to me screaming that his face itched.  We ran inside and I grabbed the Children's Benadryl to give him a spoonful.  Mateo has tears streaming down his cheek as he frantically pats his face and bounces up and down not knowing what to do.  I grab the anti-itch cream and rub it all over his face, hoping it would provide some immediate relief. Unfortunately, he begins to cry that the cream has made it hurt.  I mean this poor child is all out sobbing and jumping -- poor thing.  I lay him on the couch and grab some ice packs, and immediately call my friend Emily N, who is a nurse.  She asks if his face is swelling.  Good grief, it is.  His lips are swelling up, his cheeks and forehead are swelling.  Luckily, his eyes were okay and he was breathing fine.

God bless her, she runs up to our house fresh after a shower and checks on Mateo moments after Mateo whimpered on the phone to "Poppy" how he felt bad.  Thankfully, Emily said we did all the right things and the Benadryl should kick in within 15 minutes.  Sure enough, Mateo looked loads better by 20 minutes later.  He still said his face hurt and later he added that his throat hurt, but he had lunch with us and was playing around.  He's crashed out in a nap right now with his lukewarm little ice packs around his face for comfort.

Cuteness upon cuteness though:
Daniel was such a good little nurse to Mateo!!  I'm not even kidding.  He was helping Mateo with his ice packs, giving Mateo chocolate milk to sip, making him laugh a little, kissing his arm.  ADORABLE!!

Mateo gets his next dose of medicine after his nap, and I think by then we'll have made a full recovery!  It has sure made for an adventuresome day, though.  Hopefully tomorrow we'll have some photos from our first tryst with karate!  Way fun.
