Day 3: Sunburnt and Goodbyes to Come -- aka A Great Morning Followed by a Super Sad Afternoon

Today we met a smart gal from Manchester, England, who was approximately 12 years old, I would imagine. She was super kind and said it was "a pleasure" to let us borrow her flotation device as she was working on doing handstands in the water and backwards flips. :) So the boys spent the morning clamoring for Papa's attention and wanting a turn at the "green circle." It was great fun, and I was super proud of Daniel who spent the day in the deep water too! Mateo is the brave one and the first to do everything, so it was no surprise he was ready to go, but Daniel . . . well he needs warming up to the idea. :)

By the way, the bandaid was for fun. He has a real cut behind his ear, but kisses make that better. He has lots of very serious hurt places that aren't visible to my eyes that need only the medication of a cartoon monkey-covered bandaid. :)

Ha -- I never did get any pictures of me in the pool, as I helped carry the boys around in the big pool as well as Ray today. And like the title says, I did get sunburnt. ARG. We were out in the morning and I just didn't think. When will I learn? I can hear my mom shaking her head via Internet cord. I'm sorry, mom! Aiya Ai.

Meanwhile, my heart is just broken. In many ways we're having the best day yet. The pool was way fun and the boys ate lunch like the sweet boys I know they are. They kept their voices low and we had no spillings or messes. It was wonderful. It was a pleasure to sit and sip coffee while watching them. Now Daniel is sleeping and Mateo will join him in a few minutes (he's off with Papa right now) and I just am heartbroken at leaving them AGAIN.

Ray and I are keenly aware that they have some deep-rooted trust issues -- nothing we can't overcome together once we are home -- but it's just hard saying goodbye again. It was SOOOOO GOOOD to see them and have fun at the pool and find our own rhythm, but I just don't want to let go again.

I'm so glad you had this time with them, but I don't doubt the pain you are feeling now.
Hugs!
