Day 2: Estamos Feliz! (We are happy!)

Today has been "un buen dia" a good day. We woke up to smiling happy faces after a wonderful night's rest. We had breakfast of cereal bars and juice in the room, before we had our first bath! Mateo and Daniel were skeptical, but interested after yesterday's viewing of what a bubble bath looks like. Today I told them they could get in only if they wanted to. So we touched the water. We splashed the water. We took off shirts (them, not me!) so as not to get our clothes wet. And then they were ready to try this whole bath tub thing out.

Turns out, Teo (the man who arranges everything from the Guatemalan side of this adoption process) says they are used to sponge baths and this was a whole new experience. But once they got in, they LOVED it. There was no getting out. I said 5 more minutes and after a while, Mateo said, "10 more minutes!" In sum: the bath was a hit!

We played. We walked around the hotel. We had lunch with "papas fritas" french fries, which the boys adore dipped in both honey mustard AND ketchup. And then it was time for a nap (siesta). We knew they were tired, but how to get to them to lie down and be still? We finally decided to ask them to lie with us, and sure enough -- not five minutes later -- they're sound asleep, where they are as I write this note. Precious. Ray wiggled free to take the picture, but you can see where his head was in the pillow. Mateo loves his daddy and Daniel loves his mommy. :)Meanwhile, here are a few more pictures to add from today and last night. I don't know how we're going to leave them tomorrow. I'm not ready. They are so full of love for each other and for us. They love to hold our hands, love to be held, love to kiss us. We're family already. I never thought four more months could possibly feel as dreadfully long as this. How do you leave? *deep breath* Okay. Here are the pictures.

Hey guys! GREAT PICTURES!

Tomorrow will be THE HARDEST THING YOU HAVE EVER DONE. I was in Guatemala with Sofia 4 times, and had to give her back 3 times. It SHATTERED ME, and I mean SHATTERED ME each and every time.

You will leave a part of your heart with you when you depart the land of eternal spring.

But have hope, He who began a good work will be FAITHFUL to complete it.

Hang on and hang in! Stay strong!

I am reading your blog with tears in my eyes. "Un familia."

Your story is one of such hope and courage and love.

You are amazing people, and these beautiful boys are sooooo lucky to have parents like you to fall asleep on. Bless you both.

My thoughts are with you today as you say good-bye to them for now. It's just another day closer to the day that you will actually bring them HOME.

love you.
