Last night around 2:00 am, we discovered that my great aunt Ora had passed away. She was 97 years old. She slipped away easily after over a month of having difficulties. Hospice had not seen such a fighter.
My Aunt Ora lived with my grandmother, her sister, for over 30 years. I remember being a little girl and staying with the two of them in their house during the summers. Grandma and Aunt Ora would call to each other from across the bedrooms for hours before they would fall asleep. While my Grandma was practical with her grocery list, it was Aunt Ora who loved chocolate, and doughnuts, cake and icecream. She appreciated the sweet things in life. And only my Aunt Ora would carry around a bottle of Dr. Pepper with her everywhere she went. It's funny the things you remember.
