Early Morning Friday

Kelli is in our first room with the boys, who are sleeping side by side on their stomachs. I slipped out of the room to do some email and write this post. Last night, I was able to email some of my family, but Kelli called from next door to say that the boys kept asking where "Papa" was, so I had to abandon the project for the time.

Kelli will post some pictures later in the day if the boys will give her a chance.

We had dinner last night at Champs in the Marriott. The boys ate and ate and ate. They like chicken fingers and fries dipped in honey mustard and then ketchup. I cannot believe they ate so much. The foster mother said that Daniel was a picky eater, but I think we found what he likes.

Mateo has a rash on his stomach and back. The the foster mother and the Guatemalan adoption contact both said that he had been to a doctor about it. They also think that Daniel may have the measles. Another couple is making their first visit to their adoptive son who looks to be close to nine, and he seems to have a cold or the flu.

Daniel and Mateo are absolutely full of energy. They ran around the room, then would stop to hide and try to scare us, then they would throw a ball. By the way, Mateo looks to be a budding athlete. He can throw and catch well. Daniel is interested, but not quite as coordinated.

They are well behaved and respond well to those few Spanish commands that I learned. Kelli did an awesome job of using her Spanish in speaking to the foster mother. She, of course, is also doing a great job talking to the boys.

After dinner last night, we put the boys in their "Cars" pajamas and watched "Cars" on the computer. The boys knew all the characters, so it was okay that there was no Spanish option on the DVD. They were thrilled. They would get right in front of the computer on their stomachs and stare transfixed for a few moments, touching the screen. Then they would jump up and talk a mile a minute pointing at the screen, then flop back down on their stomachs and the process just repeated itself over and over until we all fell back on the pillows. I was first to fall asleep; then Mateo on my shoulder. I am not sure after that. Finally, Kelli woke me up, and we carried the boys back to our other room for what we thought would be the night.

It was then that I quietly left the room to use the computer only to be called back. It's nice to be needed.

The sun is just coming up now, so I am will sign off for now. This is an awesome experience.
