More Bad News (Again)

Just when we felt about as heartbroken as we could feel, there's more. We've known for some time that Jan. 1 was going to cut off adoptions in Guatemala. The Congress has been meeting and were supposed to have voted on a law to grandfather in existing cases back in November. They are now talking about finalizing the law December 11. The Guatemalan Congress is set to meet four times over the next two weeks before the vote. So far, I've had good faith that the Congress of Guatemala would do what is right for the children of Guatemala. Hopefully, they still will.

There are a number of problems that have surfaced today that we did not realize. The first of which is that in order to pass the law, 107 Congressmen must vote. The problem is that many of the elections are still pending and positions in the Congress are sitting empty. Also, because of the holidays, it is unlikely that the Congressional members, who are currently in recess, will return to work on this new law. Also, it is not unusual for laws to fail because the number of Congressmen present is not enough to pass the bill.

The second problem is that the law is written in a way that stops adoptions without appearing to do so. It will create a new government entity, but require in-process adoptions to register with this entity in 30 days. The reality of an agency being created, being staffed, being built, being organized and over 3000 adoptions being registered in this non-existent place in 30 days is pretty far-fetched.

So there we stand. We're just waiting. I think we're on overload right now. The uncertainty of what is in store, has us flooding our agency with questions. Our primary concern right now is with the boys. We just don't know if anyone is talking to them about what's going on, or if they are still being provided for since the process is going to be taking so much longer. Please keep our boys in your prayers. We would really appreciate that.

When I read all that on the guatadopt site this morning I just cried. I've been really discouraged today. I'm praying for you and your boys. We are awaiting a call from our agency this week. A verse I came to today in my devotion--Psalm 147:3
"He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds."

Thanks Em,
I've been reading some comforting things as well. God is our God and he will provide for us. I do believe so.
